Lowercase f

Uppercase F

Dotted F, hooked F and the Fahrenheit symbol

F with a dot above

Ḟ and ḟ contain a dot above the letter. The dot stays with the character when copied as plain text. Adding a full stop beside an ordinary F creates a different sequence.

F with a hook

Ƒ and ƒ are characters with a hook. Although ƒ can resemble an italic f, changing the font style of plain f does not produce it. Use the actual character if the code or spelling matters.

℉ is a temperature symbol

The Fahrenheit sign combines a degree mark and capital F. It is not a lowercase accented letter, even though it appears in this collection. Choose it for the symbol itself, rather than as a substitute for ḟ or ƒ.

Select a character above and wait for the copy confirmation. Paste into your text with Ctrl + V on Windows, Command + V on Mac, or your phone’s Paste command. For a whole name or sentence, use the online accent keyboard. You can also browse all accent letters from A to Z.

How to type f with an accent on Windows

Using a numeric keypad

Not every marked f has a standard Windows ALT shortcut. For ḟ, copying is the most direct option here. In Word for Windows, you can also use the hexadecimal method described below.

No numeric keypad? Use the copy button or the Word method. If your laptop has an embedded keypad, check its own instructions for enabling it.

Type ḟ with Alt + X in Word

In Word for Windows, 1E1F is the hexadecimal value for ḟ. Alt + X converts that value into the letter, without requiring a numeric keypad.

  • Put your cursor at the insertion point in Word.
  • Type 1E1F, without the U+ prefix.
  • Highlight only the code, then press ALT + X.
  • Check that the code has become ḟ.

See Microsoft’s character-code instructions for details about code entry. For other characters, browse the ALT code directory.

On a Mac, phone, or tablet

On a Mac, try holding a letter key in an app that supports the accent menu. If the form you need is missing, copy it here and paste with Command + V. On a phone or tablet, select a character and use your destination app’s Paste command. See Apple’s accent guide for Mac options.
